I have had this novella to read for some time and it was great to be back in the Kate Daniels world. Obviously, I loved, loved, loved this short read/listen and I actually believe it could be read without having to read all the other books in the series, which seems to be the case with most novellas written in this world. With his help they solve the “mystery” and catch the bad guy, but Jim manages to take advantage of this time together and I loved how he maneuvered his way into Dali’s little bubble world. There is never a dull moment in this world of magic and shape shifters, but this time Jim refuses to leave Dali’s side.

While navigating a case that was brought to Dali’s attention through a family friend, this couple are confronted will all kinds of evil. Don’t ask me why, there’s just something about them that endears them to me and I can’t get enough. This is an extremely short novella that gives us another delicious look and Dali and Jim, two characters that I adore, dare I say, more than Kate and Curran. Add in the additional love I have for this particular character and I’m a very happy listener. I’ve especially enjoyed her rendition of Dali. But what they find may just be the end of them-an enemy whose skill in the dark arts is matched only by their willingness to kill anyone in their way.Īs always, this narrator does a superb job of bringing these characters to life. When Dali is approached by a desperate woman whose grandmother has vanished, Jim is concerned enough to help investigate. His only soft spot is for the petite Dali, whose kindness he calls upon when he is injured.

A jaguar shifter, he’s been tasked with keeping Atlanta’s Cat Clan in line, which he does with swift and lethal force when necessary. Jim Shrapshire is an original, hardcore badass.

She dislikes the violence and bloodshed that are a way of life for most of her kind, even going so far as to become a vegetarian. Shapeshifting tigress Dali Harimau may be a powerful healer and magic user, but she’s far from what might be called “normal”. #1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews once again pulls readers into the dark and dangerous world of the Kate Daniels novels in this reader favorite, previously published in the anthology Night Shift.
